Imagine my disappointment when 'cover' transforms from troops dynamically interacting with the terrain into 'capture location that stops bullets with force fields'. With the growth from DoW 1 to 2 to CoH and how troops naturally interacted with the environment, I really really expected something similar. One of my very few expectations was that this would remain a focus of the game. It was a huge part of what made Relic RTS games feel like commanding troops at war instead of 'playing a game'. DoW1 and DoW2 were so different from each other that I knew DoW3 would likely be a new unique experience too, but there were a couple key features of the other DoW games that had been consistent and I was looking forward to.ĭoW games (and Company of Heroes by the same devs) had a brilliant use of cover that only got better with every title released.
